and rubber wood pegs. Fish are cold-blooded
vertebrate animals that live and
breathes in the water. They have backbones,
fins to swim, and gills to breathe and scales. Among
all Earths vertebrate species, fishes make up about half of
them. Fish have been on the earth for more than 500
million years long before dinosaurs. Fishes are divided
into three main groups. jawless (lamprey eel)
cartilaginous (Sharks), and bony (blue marlin).
All fish have a backbone. The largest fish is the great whale
shark can reach up to fifty feet in length. The smallest fish is the Philippine goby that is less than 1/3 of an inch. Fish have excellent senses of
sight, touch, taste, smell and even feel pain and suffer stress. Fish
eat other fish, fish eggs, mollusks, aquatic plants, algae,
zooplankton, terrestrial insects, water birds,turtles, frogs, snakes
and mice. Person who studies fish called an ichthyologist.
Some animals that live in the water but not classified fish are
whales, dolphins, octopus, and jellyfish.
